Wow, what a nice surprise to find some comments from Nanette Rayman Rivera this morning. I like to put all her comments into one big post for you all to read.

Let me start by saying I am obviously not the person she thinks I am, and I certainly would never hack her email or send her messages of any kind. To be honest, her insanity frightens me a little and I have no desire to ever interact with her outside of this blog. I link to her blog on my site so that you can all go and decide for yourself what you think about her. She is typical of what you will find at Student Loan Justice and just the type of person that Alan Collinge likes to enlist to do his dirty work.

Here it is for you in its unedited entirety:

I, Nanette Rayman Rivera HAVE NEVER called Jacob, Jake or whatever your name is on your cell phone. And if it’ s so easy to discharge loans for disability, why do disabled people have their government checks garnsihed?

And Jacob, you better stop threatening to whack my disabled husband over the head with a baseball bat. You are scum. Tell me, how do you harass me every day through email and yet you manage to not have your OWN email on the email? You must be with Sallie Mae.

AGAIN, you refuse to acknowledge that I did pay my first student loans off. I hope you become unemployed, disabled or sick and then you will cry like the baby you are. Why aren’t you going after people making 25K a year who got mortgages?

You can threaten my husband and myself with violence all you want. It won’t make a 55 year old woman get a job any easier. Your tactics are SO Sallie Mae. Come on, keep threatening me. The more you do, the more you show what a scumbag you are.

Oh, and in ALL your emails, you don’t know how to spell. Why is that? I could be your secretary, scumbag, and then I could pay back my loans.

oh, I do realize that the word “garnished” in above email is misspelled - typed too fast.

Unlike you who wrote in your emai to me;

Your a bum. Well, dummy Jake, it’s You’re a bum. Spelling is a very difficult subject to comprehend, as is sickness, disability, unemployment. If I really wanted to be a bum, I wouldn’t have paid my first loans off when NO ONE was in the late ’80’s and ’90’s which led to Alan Lord bribing Congress to get rid of bankruptcy protection and all consumer protections. Funny, Sallie Mae now has its paws out for its own bailout, the same asshole company who made it impossible for the debtors to discharge their debt - now they want to discharge THEIR debt.

Can I sue you for stating that I called Jake?

I don’t even have long distance on my phone?

Can I sue you for threatening to whack my husband over the head with a baseball bat 15 times to knock his schizophrenia out of him?

huh?

you are committing illegal acts by using MY email to email me. What say you?

coward - corrupt bugger

you must be the ugliest bastard on earth.

so, why aren’t you working at you job, after all, emailing and using and spamming other people’s emails isn’t working for your job.

I am alerting authorities. I will just change my account and my computer if I have to. You piece of turd.

you hacked into my email account. you are going down, buddy.

the owner of this blog hacked into my email account. this is illegal. he also threatens me and my husband with violence.

I received this comment this morning and wanted to share it with everyone. I realize that many people who visit this site come here only to write me nasty messages, but perhaps there are a few people who have grown tired of StudentLoanJustice.org and are looking for an alternative. Even after Jake was outed by Alan Collinge and put in his rotation of people to harass, he still is looking to help people. I’m quite certain that the Nanette Rayman Rivera’s of the world will continue to call Jake on his cell phone and scream at him and tell him what a horrible person he is, but I think this comment will do a lot to prove to many of the StudentLoanJustice.org members that perhaps Alan doesn’t really have their best interests in mind.

Please read this if you have a few minutes, it just may give those of you with real medical emergencies the relief you have been seeking. Thank you again to Jake and I am more than happy to print as many of his comments as he wants to take the time to write. If it helps just one person struggling with illness and student loans, it is worth it.

Here is the comment in full:

Heya,

I’m “Jake” to everyone, not Jacob. I would like to once again reiterate that I am NOT the publisher of this website, although I am the individual Collinge STILL credits for this website.

I’m actually posting in response to a comment made by the site admin, which can best be summarized in the following quote:

“I have many times over said that I agree that in cases of true medical hardship that something should be done to stop lenders from collecting interest and penalties”.

The 1st thing that makes me think of is Total and Permanent Disability Discharge. Borrowers who meet this criteria are eligible for permanent discharge of their student loan obligations. They complete a form, which their doctor must certify, explaining how they are permanently and totally disabled. Assuming the information provided by the borrower and their doctor on the form supports a diagnosis of TOTAL and PERMANENT disability, the loan is assigned to ED. ED then administers the loan for a 3-yr period, wherein the borrower is audited to ensure eligibility. Borrowers who miraculously return to work and earn more then poverty-level income within 3 years of certifying they are TOTALLY and PERMANENTLY disabled do NOT qualify for the discharge, but they are NOT charged interest or any other fees/penalties for the 3 year period in which ED held their loan and audited it to ensure their eligibility.

Borrowers who do qualify for the discharge, as determined by ED at the end of the 3-year period, have their loan permanently discharged.

Obviously in the 2 above situations, no one collects interest from the borrower; even borrowers who LIE about their disability status are not expected to pay for interest that accrues until they’re caught (although penalties associated with making false statements to fraudulently obtain federal student aid benefits remain in full effect).

This is just ONE example of an existing remedy available to borrowers who experience a true medical emergency.

If you’re like me, you’re thinking “that sounds nice, but what about the people who have a TEMPORARY medical emergency that gets them behind on everything, but doesn’t disable them forever?”

ANY borrower who took out their first federal student loan after 7/1/1993 is entitled to up to 36 months of Economic Hardship Deferment. A borrower will qualify for this deferment if their income, minus their student loan payments, puts them at or below 150% of the poverty level for their family size. During this deferment, the federal government pays all interest that accrues on subsidized loans. This option helps borrowers who are temporarily unable to pay for a multitude of reasons, including temporary medical disability that causes financial hardship.

Pre-1993 borrowers are entitled to a temporary disability deferment for times when their doctor certifies they are unable to work (I don’t remember the limit for this deferment, but I believe its 24-36 months) . Again, the government pays interest that accrues during this period for subsidized loans.

So, in cases of true medical hardship, borrowers ALREADY have options to AT LEAST temporarily postpone payments. In fact, borrowers with medical hardships so severe that the borrower is not expected to work again can have their loans forever discharged.

It does not benefit Collinge to tell his followers about these options, since the presence of remedies for their problems in the existing system give them no incentive to join Collinge in his lobbying efforts. I’m not at all surprised to learn from SLJ members that Collinge did not advise them of existing options available to them, although Collinge has researched the Higher Education Act extensively, and is or should be aware of these forms of relief.

I’d advise everyone who’s actually looking for help with their student loan situation to steer clear of SLJ.

I will print his full comment below but will be taking out any reference to the fact that he thinks I am some guy from Indiana. First off, I don’t think it is right to publish phone numbers and harass people at home. It is a typical Student Loan Justice tactic that doesn’t seem to be getting them anywhere. They are certainly free to do whatever they want, but I won’t support that on my website, so I have deleted names and phone numbers from his comment.

On to the actual comment itself. This is what I received from Alan Collinge. Thanks for stopping by Al:

(name deleted) of Indiana, 1-###-###-####

You can share my personal information as you see fit. I have always used my real number, and and anyone can quickly and easily find my contact information, including my cell phone number.

You have made statements regarding student loan borrowers, including:

“…We are gracious enough to allow him to breathe our air. In some places he would be put in a slave camp to work off his debt.”

You completely fail to acknowledge the real human suffering that is resulting in this country as a direct result of the removal of the ost basic, standard consumer protections from student loans.

Be a man, Jacob Walsh. Back up your argument with your real name. Don’t hide. This is a real problem affecting real people.

Throwing stones behind a veil of secrecy only stalls the conversation. Be a man, young Jacomb, and stand up for what you believe to ge right. Lets have a real debate. I have challeneged you to this more than once. Now that you are outed, perhaps you will be compelled to take me up on my offer.

I appeared on Fox News recently, which shows clearly that I am willing to take my argument to the worst possible arenas of battle to make the case for student loan borrowers.

I can only hope that you will have the argument, wherewithal, and bravery to engage me instead of hiding, and throwing stones, as you have heretofore done.

I frankly doubt that you will take me up on it, as yo have failed to do to this point. Feel free to call anytime. My cell phone number is (###) ###-####.

Let’s do it, Jake. Don’t be scared. Be a man, not a pussy.

Ok Alan. I realize that you mostly choose not to believe what your opponents try to tell you. Other than remaining anonymous, I have been 100% truthful on this site. I do not pretend to be someone I am not. I do not leave comments from fake names on my own site. I don’t make up posts about what you and the others at Student Loan Justice say. Everything I have personally posted on here has been a reprint from a combination of sites including Yahoo groups, studentloanjustice.org, American Dust, and other sites that you have commented on. I add a little personal commentary on but other than that, you and your fellow deadbeats write this site for me.

On to your false statements. You seem to distort the truth every time you leave a comment on here. Allow me to clear this up. You say that I made the following statement:

“…We are gracious enough to allow him to breathe our air. In some places he would be put in a slave camp to work off his debt.”

That is absolutely false. That comment was made on January 24th by someone with an email from rock.com. He/she did not leave a name, but I’m sure you can call over there and harass everyone at the company until you find the right person……which you have done on numerous occasions to numerous people. That is the way you do things, you intimidate, harass, and threaten. Much like a child who doesn’t get his way.

Next you accuse me of “failing to acknowledge the real human suffering” of student loans. That is also a lie. I have written just as many posts about how I do acknowledge that real human suffering is taking place all over the country. I have student loans myself. I know firsthand the toll that an unforeseen medical emergency can take on a persons ability to pay back a student loan. What I refuse to acknowledge is that you, Alan Collinge, are suffering or are in any way a victim of the student loan industry. You made the choice to quit your job, you made the choice to move to Alaska, and you made the choice to ignore your responsibility to make timely payments on your loans. So stop hiding behind the people with medical emergencies and real hard-luck stories and admit your mistakes.

As to the challenge to debate you, I’m sure that someday I will. I have stated over and over that until you prove that you can fight fair, I would never engage in an open debate with you. You have continually harassed people who have an opposing view to yours, and unlike you, I have a family and a life that I don’t care to expose to that. If I could be assured that you would be willing to have an adult conversation about our differing points of view, I would be more than happy to have a discussion with you. But since I received two emails last week from people who you have personally harassed, I can’t imagine I will be giving you my phone number anytime soon.

Nice touch at the end Alan, calling me a pussy is laughable and exactly what I would expect from a deadbeat like yourself. Since I’m fairly certain I could beat your ass with little effort, I won’t take that too personally. Have a good day buddy and stop back soon.

Another example of the usual student loan justice tactics. Exactly what we have come to expect from Alan Collinge and his supporters. This type of behavior is exactly why I remain anonymous and exactly why I will remain that way until Alan Collinge pays back his student loans in full. At that time, I will gladly print my name, email address, and phone number so that you can all call me and tell me how wrong I am. Until that happens, which I suspect will be never, I’ll keep things how they are. My apologies to whoever sent me this comment and has to endure all the crazy calls and threats that come from Student Loan Justice members.

Here is his/her story:

I briefly joined the SLJ Yahoo group in late 2007. I wasn’t sure what the whole thing was about when I joined, but wanted to use my knowledge of the student loan industry (I used to work for a major student loan lender) to help people. I quickly found out that the group was more about whining, name-calling, and irrational dribble then helping anyone or accomplishing anything, including their stated activist agenda. By January 2008 they had removed me for calling out people who refused to take any responsibility for their situations. The leader of the group at that time, H, had given me her phone number and I called her a few times to discuss the group and her situation. I never thought I’d need to block my number from caller ID.

Fast forward to 9/13/08. Alan Collinge sends out an email to his supporters giving out my unlisted phone number, and telling them I have “been working tirelessly to marginalize the plight of student loan borrowers”, and that I’m a “contributor, if not the owner, of the ‘Studentloanjusticeexposed’ website”. He also included the text of a comment on this website and attributed it to me.

For the record, this message today is my FIRST contribution to this website, which I do NOT own. I do not use ANY of the aliases he mentioned in his email.

Needless to say, I’ve been getting a LOT of phone calls from SLJ members. A few of them were actually nice people, and I was able to give one gentleman some advice that I hope will help him fix his student loan problem. The majority of them, however, have been people who just want to yell at me or harass. Many of them like to yell at my voicemail as it’s rather difficult to answer the phone when you’re getting 15 calls an hour:))

Apparently, this is not an isolated example of Collinges’ unique brand of “grassroots activism”. According to the Business & Media Institute (businessandmedia.org), Collinge ” has called loan company executives at home to criticize their corporate policies, and sent the occasional profanity-laced e-mail message to lender advocates.”

Before giving out my phone number by email, Collinge did call me a few times to leave nasty messages. He did not block his number. I could share his phone number with others to give him a taste of his own medicine, but that would be stooping to his level.

I received a comment from Adnihilo this past weekend and I wanted to share it with you. I don’t know this person and they don’t know me, but I can say that other than being anonymous, I have always been very straightforward with you about my life and my beliefs. So i will gladly take those Vegas odds, but only if you will pay up. I do not leave bogus comments on my blog. I never will. If I feel the need to share my opinion, I either leave it as a post or comment under the name Student Loan Justice Exposed Admin.

Furthermore, I don’t work for the Dept. of Ed or Sallie Mae, I’m not much of a Christian, and I’m not in a cult. As to your comment about censoring, I have always approved every comment that comes through here, as long as it is relatively on topic. I don’t come on here everyday as this is not really a huge part of my life, so relax and leave as many comments as you want, I’ll post them all when I get around to it.

Here are the unedited comments as always:

Vegas odds tell me ‘Student Loan Insider’ is also the blogger owning this domain as well as the same “Student Loan Insider” making the following fallacious and emotive based corporatist radical right Christian dominionist remarks coming from a religious cult member in ‘Indiana’ on Jan 28, 2008:

“To everyone that did not get to read the truth about the man with the smallest penis in the world, here you go: StudentLoanJustice is some loser whining about hardship he brought on himself for loans he never had any real intention of paying.”

It’s absolutely absurd for someone to start a web blog solely to viciously attack one man making comments from anonymous sources that are surely written by the very same lunatic who makes all the posts on this absurd blog.

Take heed readers - the owner and primary poster of this website has a hidden agenda likely coming from the US Dept of Education itself….

And of course the owner will censor any comments that really aren’t his own;-]

Alan Collinge and all his cronies over at Student Loan Justice are always asking me why I choose to remain anonymous. Here is exactly the reason why. I received this comment from someone who the people over at Student Loan Justice call “Jake”. I’m not really sure who he is or what his connection is with the student loan industry or with Student Loan Justice, but I believe his story and I will reprint his comment here for everyone to read.

First of all, I would like to apologize to this guy. I started this site because I disagreed with Alan Collinge and I certainly thought his tactics were reprehensible. I did so anonymously because I was well aware of the fact that Alan and many others at SLJ were known for harassing and bullying anyone who got in their way. Why would I subject myself to that? I wouldn’t and I apologize to the commenter who now has to put up with harassing phone calls and people like Alan Collinge and Nanette Rayman Rivera.

I really hope that everyone reads this comment. It may be the most important thing on this site in terms of exposing Student Loan Justice and Alan Collinge. I am amazed at the patience of this guy, and at his ability to continue to attempt to help those who called him looking to yell and threaten. Once again I am sorry that you have to endure those people, and best of luck in the future. Feel free to leave comments here if you’d like, but I don’t blame you if you just want to be done with all this.

I have left off his name and email address at his request. Here is the entire comment unedited:

(Should you choose to publish this, please hide my email. Thanks.)

Wow, I logged in this morning to find 30 comments. I’ve had some busy times on this website, but this definitely beats anything I’ve encountered this far. Most of the comments are from Nanette and MJ Rivera. I’ve received many absolutely insane comments from Nanette but this is my first time meeting her husband. Talk about a match made in heaven? I’ll post all of their comments in one long string here for everyone to read. Most have to do with them believing that they are exposing me to the world by giving out my name and phone number. The only problem with that notion is that they are wrong.

The following comments are from Nanette Rayman Rivera:

Thanks for putting me at the top of your ugly website. And Dog’s wife is not beautiful.

On to student loans. You ARE Sallie Mae, right? So why should we pay when you steal the payments and don’t credit the account?

Aren’t you an old geezer with hair in your ears and you work for Sallie Mae because they pay you alot, but you really hate them too? Aren’t you dickless and a reallyl ugly piece of nothing that ruins peoples’ lives to get your rocks off and the big bucks? And if this guy, Jay is so annoying to you, why isn’t he at top of page?

How come the more you pay Sallie Mae, the more you owe them?

I hope Alan Collinge gets to beat the crap out of you and you run home to Mommy. Oh, right, you’re too old for that.

Could you pay my loans for me? Why don’t you come out in the open and say who you are? Is it because you ARE Sallie Mae and they pay you to have this ugly, boring, disgustingly plain blog? Couldn’t you at least make it look good?

I hope you get sick and can’t pay your bills.

How come you have so much trouble spelling?

And how come all the SALLIE MAE bitches who call me are Latrinas? How come they can’t speak English properly? How come they lie and steal? Come here to the ghetto - see how long you last - I know a few guys who’d love to break you bad. Then we’ll see what a bad-ass you really are, SALLIE. A guy named Sallie.

That’s right. I am insane. I’m insane because I paid my first loans and I don’t deserve to have my life ruined by Congress and Alan Lord paying them off. Maybe if this stupid country got rid of affirmative action, people like me could actually get jobs. Where would you be without SALLIE???? You’d be looking for work too and you wouldn’t get a damn thing - oh no, there goest your FANNIE MAE house - oh no, Mr. Sally. Alan Lord is a piece of crap.

I contacted the Ombudsman. They are shit too. They told me my loan was already in default and it wasn’t. They won’t help. They are part of the crud.

Who are you kidding?

She’s not beautiful. You really are crazy. She might be nice, but not beautiful. But I guess to a guy like you who probably looks like a frog, anyone is beautiful. And of course, you love people who get the bad guy, so how come you’re with Sallie Mae?

I hope you get sick like some of us and can’t pay your bills either. Then you’ll be the biggest whiner ever.

You are shit.

The following are from MJ Rivera…..enjoy the madness:

Oh yeah - so how come disabled people can’t get discharge options.

You are exposed now, (name deleted). I know your cell phone number too, pal.

So you are going to screw everyone because you don’t like Alan?

1-###-###-#### - that’s your #, right, Mr. (name deleted), Mr. gradgurl, Henry Bones, sASSie MAE

1-###-###-####

THAT’S YOUR PHONE #, RIGHT, (name deleted) THE UGH a NOT

POSTING YOUR NAME AND NUMBER EVERYWHERE - your undercover routine is over, buddy

###-###-#### - it’s all over the web now, (name deleted), Sallie Mae hit man, slug, lowlife

isn’t your phone number ###-###-####

isn’t your name (name deleted) and you grew up in a cult, you idiot and you are a toad just like Yolanda Holman at Sallie Mae who refuses to credit people’s accounts after they send in payments?

aren’t you a guy with a tiny penis and a big, big, big ego? and you have nothing to offer the world except your contempt for people in trouble?

(name deleted) you are a piece of __________

I don’t have enough time to copy and paste them all, but it continues like this for about 15 more comments. Since I have never actually had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful couple I can’t speak about their level of sanity, but the above comments should help you decide for yourself. As always, keep the comments coming.

I just received this comment, and while I certainly can’t vouch for its validity, I believe every word of it because it sounds exactly like what I would expect to happen based on the history of Student Loan Justice. Yet another shining example of why I disapprove of their tactics and their Leader Alan Collinge.

I’d like to thank the person who left this comment and I will respectfully leave off all her information as she asked. Anonymity is something I value when dealing with a group whose motto is “Make them feel your pain”. Harassment and threats are just part of the way they do things over there.

Here is the entire comment minus the name and email of the person who left it:

Ok -full disclosure. I don’t know about the author of this site but I do indeed work in the industry. I was reading some of the stories on the SLJ site and noted that some of them seemed to be eligible for existing loan discharge options. I emailed the site with the information and asked that it be passed along. In return I got a screaming email from Alan asking why didn’t spend my time changing the system instead of working for such an awful industry. Note I used a personal email address and did not identify myself or where I worked. Either way it made me sad that someone who claims to be fighting for the consumer was unwilling to allow them to be helped. I think there probably are some pro-consumer changes that could be made to the student loan laws, I just don’t think that SLJ is the best poster child for the cause. Please don’t print my email as I don’t want to be attacked again. Anyone reading this who DOES need help should make sure they contact their loan holder’s Ombudsman or even the Ombuds at the Department of Education.

First off, I would like to thank Terri for coming to my site and commenting. I too am interested in your story and I too feel for the situation you find yourself in. You are an exception to both my stance on student loans and to Alan Colllinge’s stance on student loans.

I can certainly relate with what you are going through as I too am a teacher with one more class to go to obtain my Masters in Education. It hasn’t been easy, and the added monthly cost of my graduate school loans has left me wondering if it was worth it or not. I have been lucky enough to stay healthy and be able to begrudgingly pay my monthly payment, but I certainly understand that when health issues or other unforeseen tragedy arises, it might be difficult if not impossible to make that payment. It is a calculated risk that we all take in life, and I guess I should just consider myself lucky so far to have made it through. So yet again, I will say what I have always said. I DO believe that something should be done in the case of severe health issues which allows the student to defer payment and interest for a reasonable amount of time. I DO believe that in the case of an unforeseen tragedy, student loan companies should be willing to work with the borrower in a reasonable way which doesn’t pile on penalties and tons of compounding interest. I DON’T believe that deadbeats like Alan Collinge who simply up and quit their job in the hopes of grabbing some cushy government job and then blow off the lender should be allowed to just file bankruptcy and wash away his debt. I DON’T believe that every single student loan company and every single financial aid officer is a crook, a shill, or has his/her hand in the pocket of any politician who has ever voted in favor of keeping student loan debt from being dismissed through bankruptcy. Student Loan Justice is famous for name calling, threatening, and categorizing anyone in the entire student loan industry in a negative way. If all of you just stepped back and dug around a little into the life of your leader, Alan Collinge, I think you would begin to realize that he is exactly what is wrong with your cause. He has never had a medical condition, he hasn’t had tragedy that I know of, he just simply wasted his talent and 3 college degrees in engineering. He QUIT his job, he wasn’t fired. He traveled when he alleges he was dead broke and couldn’t pay his loans back. Then when it finally came back to bite him in the ass, he attacked all the wrong people and devoted his life to backing out of his debt.

So again Terri, thank you for your comment and please feel free to come back and comment again. Stories like yours are what is going to change things for the better. We can all relate with what you are going through, and that is truly what inspires change in this country.

Here is the comment in its entirety:

Some very interesting comments posted here. I have also posted on SLJ with comments as well. Not all people on SLJ are deadbeats with a grudge. I’m a public school teacher, masters degree in hand. I just started teaching for my 10th year. I’m very proud of what I do and feel I give back to my community and state every day by MY choice of profession and paying my taxes every pay period, as I should.
However, over the past 18 months I’ve fell into some pretty tough times that were unavoidable. I lost an after-school supplement I received for coordinating an after-school program. It ended up being sizeable chunk of income. Freaky situation, ended up in the hospital twice last school year, once for my young daughter. A car accident came along in the spring. At the last contract negotiation, 1 year ago, health insurance out-of-pocket, deductibles, and prescription co-pays went up significantly. I was fortunate to receive a small pay raise this year of 2%. However it has not kept up with the cost of living and the medical bills I’ve had recently. Tack on the poor shape of the economy and there just isn’t any extra to pay out.
Something had to give and I feel horrible that it has to be my student loans. However, I have a young child without a father, a mortgage, and the usual car payment, utilities, insurance, groceries, gas, etc. I thought about selling my house but the principle is a fixed rate of only 6% and is nearly as cheap as rent in some places. It doesn’t make sense to sell but because of my now poor credit rating due to my nonpayment of student loans, I cannot refinance and use my equity to pay off some of the loans. I couldn’t afford the increase in my mortgage anyway. After all my cutting and trimming of my budget, I’m usually left with around $100 a month that isn’t spent. That’s when I cross my fingers and hope that nothing terrible happens. I have great parents and they have helped with my child but they are retired and I can’t expect them to loan me money every time I have an unexpected expense.
Yeah, I did get myself into this mess and yeah, I’ll have to get myself out. I already feel bad enough about defaulting on those loans. Please don’t make me feel any worse by calling me a deadbeat. I work hard, I’m honest, and I pay all my other bills on time. Due to my loss of income there just isn’t enough to pay all those bills now. Please, try and understand that many of us are good, honest, hardworking people. We just happened to stumble and might need a hand up, not a hand out. Thanks for reading.
